SEGA Gets in the Ring with WWE Tap Mania Idle Game

Tapping means something entirely different inside a WWE ring than it usually does in mobile games, but we’re going to find out relatively soon if SEGA can change that. The company announced today that it is teaming with the world’s foremost purveyor of sports entertainment for the upcoming title WWE Tap Mania, slated to launch later this year on iOS and Android.

Described as a “free-to-play idle mobile game,” WWE Tap Mania is being developed (appropriately enough) by The Tap Lab of Cambridge, Mass. Not many details were included in the initial press release other than the fact that the game will have a roster of grapplers that includes both current and past WWE talent and will have events that tie into the promotion’s biggest pay-per-view extravaganzas, which is true of just about every WWE mobile game.

Still, while we’ve had straight up wrestling games, card games and even match-3 titles featuring WWE superstars, an idle game is definitely something different.

“We are always looking to engage our global fan base in new and exciting ways,” WWE Executive Vice President, Consumer Products Casey Collins said in a press release. “Partnering with industry leader SEGA is a great opportunity for us to continue our mobile game strategy while bringing in new fans with WWE Tap Mania.”

While we wait for more details, you can possibly beat us to the punch by keeping tabs on SEGA’s Twitter and Facebook accounts. It’s also quite likely the WWE will promote the game when it’s closer to launch as that’s kind of what it does best.
